TO THE DEATH Screening & Discussion
Last week I was proud to produce a screening of TO THE DEATH (directed by Rose McIver and starring two talented actress/writers Menik Gooneratne (MORTAL ENGINES, LION) and Yasmin Kassim (JUNGLE, SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS) and Exec Produced by Luke McGregor (ROSEHAVEN).
To the Death takes a darkly satirical look at tokenism in casting – telling the story of two South Asian actors who are forced to fight to the death for a role, as it’s physically impossible to have more than one brown person on a show.
After the screening Gooneratne and Kassim were joined by panelists Writer/Producer/Actor Arka Das (HERE OUT WEST, SHANTARAM, THE PORTABLE DOOR), Actor/Writer Leah Vandenberg (WELLMANIA, HERE OUT WEST, ROSEHAVEN), Chef/Presenter Kishwar Chowdhury (MASTERCHEF), Standup Comedian, Writer and Actor Suren Jayemanne and Diversity Activist and founder of the Australian South Asian Centre Daizy Mann for a discussion exploring their experiences as creatives in the film and media industries and workshopping collaborative ways of increasing authentic representation.
A huge thank you to Publicity genius Aisling Brady, Vyshnavee Wijekumar and the wonderfully supportive ACMI team and to all the fabulous people who came along to join in the conversation!
